
Most and Least Popular Tourists Worldwide Identified in International Study
Which nations are considered the most popular among tourists – and which generate less enthusiasm? An international study provides fascinating insights and shows how travelers are perceived worldwide. Discover the surprising results!
At the end of the holiday season, YouGov, the market and opinion research institute, presented the results of a global survey conducted during the summer months: between the end of June and the end of August 2019, more than 29,000 people from 26 countries answered the question about the countries of origin of the most and least popular tourists.
The least popular tourists
Overall, British, Russian and German tourists are the least popular. Brits are particularly unpopular in Spain (46 percent of mentions) and Germany (39 percent), Russians have a bad reputation especially in the Scandinavian countries, and Germans are perceived as bad tourists by Spaniards (17 percent) and Norwegians (16 percent).In the Asian region, including China itself, Chinese tourists fare the worst, with two-thirds of respondents in Singapore (67 percent) mentioning them.
Japanese tourists top the list worldwide
The survey also focused on the most popular tourists: Japanese visitors are the most popular, with particularly high approval ratings in Europe in Finland, France and the UK, and in Asia in Singapore (43 percent). Australian tourists also enjoy a good reputation worldwide. Germans are most popular in Italy (18 per cent), Denmark (18 per cent) and France (17 per cent).
