URL stands for "Uniform Resource Locator" and refers to the address of a web page on the Internet. The structure of URLs is well defined and follows a fixed seven-part sequence. Such hierarchical and comprehensible URLs are particularly important to users - they allow them to immediately recognise what content is to be found on the website in question. The structure of URLs also plays an important role in search engine optimisation. It is an important factor in the ranking of websites and therefore their findability. Hierarchisation also makes it easier to navigate within a website.
