Sextantio Le Grotte della Civita in Matera combines millennia-old cave architecture with modern luxury, offering guests a unique experience in restored 'Sassi' caves. Discover how this hotel harmoniously blends history and comfort.

Experience History, Enjoy Modern Comfort

Matera is located in the south of Italy - a small historic town that has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1993. The town is distinguished by its famous "Sassi" caves, which date back to the Stone Age. Hundred of these caves have been converted into homes, churches and palaces.

The Sextantio Le Grotte della Civita combines the rich history of the city of Matera with modern amenities, sustainability and an unforgettable guest experience. The architecture of the hotel is a tribute to the traditional way of construction of Matera buildings and allows guests to experience the historical and cultural significance of the unique environment. The special history is not only told on site by the walls themselves, but of course also plays a major role in external communication, thus lying the foundation for a distinctive hotel concept and a unique hotel brand.

A Different Kind of Overnight Stay

Matera is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world - a testament to human adaptability and creativity. The historic city in Basilicata, Italy is known for its ancient cave settlements, also called “Sassi”, which provide the impressive backdrop to the Sextantio Le Grotte della Civita and which have been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1993. This history forms the basis for the hotel Sextantio Le Grotte della Civita: it honors the past while meeting modern needs.

Eighteen of the Sassi caves have been restored and converted into individual rooms, while retaining their original character. Contemporary elements and luxurious amenities have been integrated to offer guests maximum comfort.

Mission and Future Plans of the Group Sextantio: Nine Additional Projects
