L'oscar | London (United Kingdom)
L'Oscar London is setting new standards in hospitality with creative concepts and exceptional design. Discover how hoteliers can incorporate such innovative approaches into their own strategies to create a distinctive guest experience.
Luxury in a former church building
"Decadence by Design" is the slogan that the 5-star boutique hotel L'oscar, which opened in London last year, is using to attract guests who love luxury and are looking for a special place to stay: in a converted church. The location alone is unusual for this concept: L'oscar is housed in a former Baptist church in the heart of the trendy Holborn district. French architect and designer Jacques Garcia (Hôtel Costes in Paris, La Mamounia in Marrakech and The NoMad in Los Angeles, among others) is responsible for the interiors in his usual extravagant and lavish manner, characterized by baroque opulence. The public areas and 39 rooms and suites are adorned with hundreds of Lalique butterflies and birds, peacock feathers on the cabinets, and a seven-story crystal chandelier in the stairwell. Golden silk, purple velvet, theatrical Victorian opulence in the spirit of the hotel's namesake, British writer Oscar Wilde, whose famous quote, "Every saint has a past, and every sinner has a future," is ubiquitous.
In the hotel's restaurant, the Baptist Bar + Grill, located in the former chapel under a soaring glass dome, celebrity chef Tony Flemingum takes care of guests. The centerpiece of the café is the backlit Onyx Bar.
